1920/30s Makeup

During the 1920’s, make-up played a massive role in helping women recover from the war, and enhanced their new feminine power. In 1909, the first cosmetics counter was opened by George Selfridge, which made make-up widely accessible. By the 20’s, make-up was everywhere.

“The 1920s woman was the first to truly create an artificial face.”

1920s make-up would consist of heavily darkened eyes, thinly plucked and drawn on eyebrows, small ‘cupid’s bow’ lips, layerings of mascara and blushed cheeks to make the face appear rounded.
