Introduction

Going into this week’s seminar with absolutely zero knowledge of the book ‘Goodbye To Berlin’ or the film ‘Cabaret’ I was really excited with the challenge of the project. This particular era is something I have never considered before and the way the brief was explained, I am deeply intrigued about what we are going to discover. As I have never watched/read anything as of yet, this week I will be diving head first into this story by reading Isherwood’s ‘Goodbye To Berlin’ and we will be watching ‘Cabaret’ in class.

Briefly, what I know about Weimar Berlin is that it was the period between World War I in 1918 and Hitler’s rise to power in 1993. During this time there was a massive change in Germany which effected many aspects including culture, such as cabaret. Although I don’t know very much at all about this topic, and my lack of knowledge does slightly worry me, I see this unit brief as an opportunity to broaden my knowledge and explore more aspects of TV, film and theatre.
