Fraulein Kost: Face/Hair Chart Designs

Hair Designs:

This hairstyle is very slick and structured. I like the idea of how it is very glamorous and beautiful, like how I imagine Frl. Kost to be, but I feel it is too 'perfect' for the scene that I have chosen.

This hairstyle is based on the performer, Josephine Baker, who has lots of sexual confidence and charisma. Often, the shorter the hair, the more daring and bold the person. I feel that these aspects are similar to Frl. Kost and I wanted to translate this in the hair. But again, I feel that the hair needs to be more messed up for a scene appropriate look.

This hairstyle has an element of structure to it, but is a little bit messier. I wanted to keep the obvious fingerwave of the hair and keep it glossy. The detail on the face adds a feminine touch, as Frl. Kost has a strong sexuality. I can't pinpoint what it is, but this just doesn't really excite me and doesn't make me instantly think of Frl. Kost's character.

This hairstyle is based on the dancer, Anita Berber. Her hair was a little wild, like her personality. She was often pictured with a scarf or headband in her hair, teamed with uncontrolled curls. The bob keeps the element of this period. I chose to create this design because Anita Berber has a strong sexual element to her behaviour, which is also a motive of Frl. Kost's. Yet I feel the headband is not something I am imagining her character to wear in this scene.

This hairstyle has the classic clean side parting. Then I have added lots of loose curls into this bob. The top section is slick and well put together, which contrasts with the looseness of the curls at the ends. I feel this represents Frl. Kost's personality and I feel could be very appropriate to the scene.

With this hairstyle, the curls as loose and a little wild. Again, I have kept a clean side parting with just one side slicked down, the other has lots of volume and personality. I feel this represents Frl. Kost's personality perfectly and the scene. The volume shows a little more glamour and a flirtatious side to her. The bob keeps in with the 1920's fashions. I am going to chose this design as I think this will reflect her personality and will suit the book's description and my imagination of her image.

Make-up Designs:

This look shows historical shapes and colours of makeup for a softer day time look. I have used brown eyeshadows to create the smoked eyes and blocked out the brows in order to draw on thinner ones. The lips are dark and thin. This look is more day time than night time, so I would like to bring a little more colour and depth to the eyes.

For this design, I used darker shades for the eyes and created a slightly rounder effect. I have used blue, which was a very popular colour of this period. The colours are a lot more suitable for this scene, but a i will be the model for the shoot, I felt that blue didn't particularly suit my colourings or the styling I intend to do.

For this makeup look, I have chosen green for the eyes. Again, a very fashionable colour for this period, and I teamed it with a complimentary deep red. The green suits my complexion much better and looks effective with the styling. I have kept this look fairly simple as obviously Frl. Kost was not a makeup artist, she was a prostitute, and probably wouldn't have the skill, time or money to produce something intricate. I am very happy with this design and will use this for the timed assessment.
